Jailed Iranian labour activist, Mahmoud Salehi, taken to hospital with heart problems

msProminent Iranian labour activist, Mahmoud Salehi, has been transferred to Khomeini Hospital in City of Saqez after he had heart problems in prison on November 3, 2017. Salehi was transferred to hospital in chains. He is presently hospitalized in the Cardiology Department of “Imam Khomeini Hospital” in Saqez, Kurdistan Province. Doctors thought he might have had a heart attack while in prison and ordered to keep him under watch. His symptoms included severe chest pain, shortness of breath and nausea. We are writing this to protest against the Islamic Republic of Iran ongoing persecution and repression of labour activists across the country. Many labour activists and workers’ rights defenders are being prosecuted and imprisoned across Iran.

Veteran labour activist, Mahmoud Salehi, who has been in and out of jail for the past thirty years, was re-imprisoned on October 28th, 2017. On November 3, 3017, Salehi suffered heart problems and was taken to the hospital from the prison. Salehi has lost both of his kidneys during his past imprisonment periods and must do kidney dialysis in the hospital twice a week. The life of Mahmoud Salehi will be in grave danger in prison. Mahmoud Salehi arrested and re-imprisoned for one more year

Well-known labour activist and former political prisoner Mohammad Jarahi dies of cancer. The Iranian labour movement holds government responsible for Jarahi’s death.

untitledMohammad Jarahi, a well-known and highly respected labour activist in Iran, died of thyroid cancer and a wide range of complications and other illnesses caused as a result of the lack of proper treatment during his five-year long imprisonment. He passed away on October 5, 2017 in Shohada Tajrish hospital in Tehran and was buried on October 6th in City of Tabriz. Many labour and social activists attended his funeral. Urgent call: Reza Shahabi on his 41st day of hunger strike.

001Reza Shahabi is on his 41st day of hunger strike. According to an Urgent Action statement issued by the Amnesty International on September 18, 2017, Shahabi “is experiencing severe headaches and dizziness, drops in his blood pressure, worsening numbness on the left side of his body, burning sensations in his stomach and digestive problems. He is also believed to have lost about 13 kg. He was taken to the prison medical clinic on 31 August but did not receive the specialized medical care that he requires”. Read the rest of this entry »

These two latest victims have joined the long list of other cross-border porters, who in order to earn a meager income resort to carrying heavy goods on their back or horseback, and cross borders between Iran and Iraqi Kurdistan, (or between Iran and Pakistan) but become targets of the Islamic regime’s criminal security forces and never return to their families and loved ones.
