Reza Shahabi has decided to continue his hunger strike but agreed to take liquids

Reza Shahabi, treasurer and member board of director of Tehran bus workers syndicate, has decided on Sunday 12 December 2010 to end his dry hunger strike (not taking either food or liquids), according to a credible report which also been confirmed by the family. The report however states that Shahabi is still determined to continue with the hunger strike, taking only liquids. (more…)

 According to a credible report from Evin prison, Reza Shahabi was transferred from Section 209 of Evin prison to an unidentified hospital by the agents of the Intelligence Ministry on emergency basis after his condition deteriorated on the eighth day of a dry hunger strike.  Another news source reported earlier that Reza was taken to the clinic in Section 209; however, another source has rejected this claim and emphasized that Reza was taken somewhere outside of Evin prison. Reza Shahabi, a leading member of an independent but unrecognized trade union in Iran, remains detained in Evin Prison, Tehran, where he has begun a hunger strike. Although Saeed Torabian, another leading member, was released on 20 July, other union members have since been arrested, bringing the total in prison to six. (more…)
