Ron Oswald,General Secretary of the IUF

Dear Colleague,
Please accept our warm regards and our apologies for the delay in responding to your letter. Your organization’s declaration of support has been a significant source of encouragement and has made us all the more unyielding in asserting our demands. As you are aware, it has been several years since the beginning of our effort to establish our own independent workers’ syndicate, in order to improve the economic wellbeing of workers and establish a sense of solidarity among the workers. Regrettably, we have been faced with serious difficulties in setting up this union, which, based on various universal treaties and conventions – particularly Convention 87 and 98 of the ILO, of which the Islamic Republic is a member – is a natural and inalienable right.
It is important to remind you that throughout this period, and over the past few days, we have staged several strikes but were in response faced only with empty promises and physical confrontations.
We send you the warmest gratitude from the workers of the Haft Tapeh Sugar Cane Plantation for your expression of support. We kindly ask that you utilize all the international links and instruments at your disposal to assist us in reaching our legal and legitimate goals, most important of which is the establishment of an independent workers’ syndicate.
– The Committee for the Resurrection of the Workers Syndicate at the Haft Tape Sugar Cane Plantation
