December 8, 2011As of today, fifteen days have passed from the commencement of Reza Shahabi’s hunger strike, in section 209 of Evin prison. We have no news of Reza’s conditions. The last time that we heard his voice was on 4th December 2011 and he spoke in a weak and shaking tone, which reflected his poor condition. Labour activists in Iran continue to pay a heavy price for the achievement of their basic rights. It has always been a policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) to persecute worker activists by intimidations, kidnapping and arrest without charge, or sentencing them to long imprisonment in shambolic and unjust trials. Even while in prison, their basic rights as a human being is being violated. Now the regime is doing its utmost to make this sort of treatment of labour activists to become of the norm.
